The title might be misleading, but it could come true within the next 5 years. Researchers at Georgia Tech are working on a possible patch that could administer the dreaded flu shot, pain-free and even at home. The patch, if funded properly, will contain tiny needles called micro needles that will release the vaccine into a person with little to no discomfort.
I, for one, am excited to see an advance like this in health research. It is nice to see a news story every once in a while that tells of advances in the right direction to better us as a whole. It’s not a huge step, but it does cut down on the amount of hypodermic needles that will be lying in our landfills and makes it easier for people with a fear of needles to get the vaccination. On top of all of that, it opens up the possibility of receiving the vaccination at home, which will make it easier for people who don’t have access to an annual flu shot.
